I got my MDX60 for about $130 US from Mercata.com (RIP?). It has 3CD, 1 MD, & 1 cassette. Initially, the unit wouldn't record minidiscs, but I took it in to my local Sharp service center, and after they shipped in a new part for replacement (all covered by the factory warranty), I had a wonderful Minisystem. I've had it for over a year now and it hasn't let me down since repair.
Recording is one-touch, from CD-MD, tape-MD, CD-Tape, MD-tape. The speakers are good, too. They put out really good sound, especially for what I paid for them.
Although they emit a high-frequency whine at the very highest volumes, I have only had it up that high 2 times...and that was just to test them. For all practical purposes, the average home listener should never encounter that problem.
The only things that I wish Sharp had included are keyboard titling, and perhaps the ability to access the sleep and alarm functions from the remote. Optical out would be nice, too...but that is a rare find.
I almost forgot to mention that it does have optical in, 2 RCA ins, and a "MD-in". The MD-in (I believe), is supposed to also transfer text from the disc, and says it works with the MD-Edit feature on Sharp portables, but my sharp MT-831 seems to have no such feature. Oh, well...it is a great unit.
