This is my first Minidisc purchase, but I did a lot of price and feature comparison before buying it. You get a lot for your money (Amazon and other sell it for $159). Recording and playback are outstanding, but use other headphones. Battery life is amazing. I've also walked around with this thing bouncing off my waistband and it never skipped once! I would not hesitate recommending this purchase.
Undocumented Tip you can fast-forward during playback by pressing the fast-forward button, but it's still not very fast. If, however, you pause playback and press the same button, it will advance very rapidly.

Ive touched on quite a few points here in no particular order.
[Design] Size- Initial Observations Surprisingly small for the price one pays. Overall Its not nearly as thick as the MT15/20, Sharp U.S.A.'s budget-minded portables from 1999-2000.
Buttons- Initial Observations Very small. Overall About what youd expect from any current portable.
Appearance- Initial Observations Wow, Nearly as radical as the MS722. Overall It grows on you.
Display- Initial Observations I wouldnt expect anything less of Sharp. Overall As good as every other portables LCD.
Construction- Initial Observations As rock solid as you can get them nowadays. Overall Some play can be seen as one presses down on the lid (nothing to worry about Id say).
Battery Door- Initial Observations Sturdier than most. Overall Finesse this puppy open.
Loading Mechanism- Initial Observations One-Touch is much better, IMO. Overall The same as it has been for years.
Interface- Initial Observations All jacks of importance are placed off to one side and the buttons are laid out around the circumference of a scallop-shaped display. Overall Neato. I like this very much.
[Performance] Sound- Initial Observations Loud as hell. That same warm Sharp sound. Boomy, exaggerated bass (which comes as no surprise). Overall Ive truly missed Sharps signature sound (dont get me wrong, I love my Sonys just as much if not more).
Access Times- Initial Observations Moves at an acceptable pace. Overall 1.) Track Search 1-2 seconds 2.) Startup/Play 2-3 seconds 2.) Shutdown 1-2 seconds 3.) TOC Write/Edit 4-7 seconds 4.) Anything Else Virtually instantaneous
Battery Life- Initial Observations Skeptical. How can Sharp possibly squeeze 7 hours of play and 5 hours of recording-time from a AA-sized NiMH? Overall They did it somehow and its more than adequate for my intended use (live recording).
SRM/Anti-Shock- Initial Observations Just dont touch it Overall Extremely disappointed. One good jolt sends this thing reeling. I shouldnt be complaining, as Ill be standing still anyway.
[Accessories] Remote- Initial Observations Looks as if it could take a beating (strong clip). Overall Fine for those who dont need the information a LCD provides. The buttons verge on microscopic.
Headphones- Initial Observations God-awful. Overall Dear God-buy yourself a decent set!
Ease Of Use/Instructions- Initial Observations You wont need them. Overall Amusing to see such goofy illustrations on how not to use the device.
Cables- Initial Observations Rarely seen packaged with my imports. Overall Its nice to have a 4th RCA to miniplug and a 6th TOS link to mini-TOSlink.
Sack- Initial Observations Gosh I hate this! Overall Nothing like a black felt bag to attract pocket lint!
[Other] Comparative Size- Initial Observations Long. Overall A smidgen too long to fit comfortably length-wise in my palm, which is long and slender by the way.
Strange Things- Initial Observations See overall. Overall No hand strap?!? The Sharp logo emblazoned on the SR60s surface is much more reflective than it was on the older 8** series. Theyve dropped the hokey 24-bit ATRAC statement that typically graces Sharps portables.

This is one of the best Minidisc recorders/palyers that I have seen. The sound recording is excellent, and even better when you use the opical cable, which you get. It weighs 150grams, but it isn't to heavy, but isn't to light so you don't know where it is. The buttons are metal, and have a nice feel to it, you get inline remote. The only thing that lights it down is battery life(6 hours play/4.5 Recording) and that it doesn't have a back lit display. Although the battery is rechargable.
