5.0/5.05.0/5.05.0/5.05.0/5.05.0/5.0   Brilliantly function, stylish player

This player is simply great!
I'm very pleased I bought it. It's light, slick esp. the blue version and the light on the top is just plain cool!
The remote is good to use, easy and has a good solid feel to it. The earphones are not particulary good but that is the only slight drawback of an otherwise great player. It stands up to been dropped, insertion of discs is easy and the general asthetic appeal is very high. Sharp have come up with the complete package of functionality and style. The unit comes with a home charger which is very conveniant.
I would highly recommend this player due to it's great remote and just plain coolness. It will stand up to most activities and I can't get it to skip. Battery life is good. So consider this unit because it's stylish, easy to use, good battery life and the great remote.

4.0/5.04.0/5.04.0/5.04.0/5.04.0/5.0   Awesome, but big battery problem
Reviewer: Owen Williams from boston, ma     November 06, 2000
I'm not just going to reiterate the praises that this machine has gotten. That all applies.

The very nasty problem with this unit is that the internal battery contact is badly designed. Basically it is a small hook that presses lightly against the battery nub. If you use the player while walking around, the contact will scratch the surface of the battery, making the electrical contact worse. Then, the hook will periodically break contact completely, making the player shut off mid track. This sucks.

Thankfully there is a way around this problem. I took a very small piece of folded-up tin foil and wedged it under the contact to prevent the hook from losing contact. The player now works flawlessly. Just make sure you don't snap the battery contact in the process. It's gold, though, so it should bend nicely.

This problem was very irritating, and I would have been tempted to give the player a 2. But since I've found an easy way around the problem, I can safely give it a four.
