From my experience so far with this deck, it's been a very solid unit. Mind you, it's Sony's bottom of the line deck from last year, but it's still got features like MDLP and ATRAC DSP Type-R. The one optical input is good enough for me and the lack of digital outputs doesn't really affect me since I don't have any receivers in my house with digital in. The Sync recording took me awhile to catch on to, but it works great now. Titling is much easier with the jog dial compared to using a portable MDR with tiny buttons, but it's still a bit tedious. If I could've, I would've picked up the JE640 with the keyboard input. That'd be the sweetest for titling. The remote isn't particularly impressing, and titling with it is a bit complicated at first, but it's got all of the features that the machine does so everything, and more can be controlled by the remote. I guess if it weren't for the lack of bells and whistles (i.e. headphone jack, keyboard input, PC-link com! patibility, etc.) I would have given it a solid 5 stars, but hey, for $179.99CDN ($120US) I can't complain.
